GT AFRIK SARL is a GPS tracking company founded in 2019 in Lubumbashi. Its Lubumbashi technicians cover Kolwezi, the capital of Lualaba province, and its headquarters are in Kinshasa. GT AFRIK provides GPS fleet tracking, fuel monitoring, generator monitoring, remote engine cut-off and dashcams, installed by its own technicians. Alerts arrive on WhatsApp and tracking subscriptions start from US$25 per month. Phone and WhatsApp: +243 817 255 555.
Kolwezi: the heart of the copper and cobalt belt
Kolwezi sits at the western end of the Central African Copperbelt and is often called the world’s cobalt capital. Some of the largest copper and cobalt operations in Africa are around the city: Kamoto (KCC) in Kolwezi itself, Kamoa-Kakula about 25 km to the west, and Mutanda and Tenke Fungurume on the road east towards Likasi. Around them works a large ecosystem of haulage contractors, fuel distributors, drilling and earthmoving companies, camp operators and equipment dealers. These operations are named to describe the region; they are not presented as GT AFRIK customers.
For a fleet manager this means heavy, high-value assets, diesel in large volumes, long working shifts and trips of several days, often far from the office in Lubumbashi or Kinshasa.
What mining fleets in Kolwezi track
- Concentrate and cathode trucks on long corridors. Copper and cobalt leave Kolwezi by road, about 300 km to Lubumbashi and on to the Kasumbalesa border with Zambia, then south towards ports. Geofences at the mine gate, weighbridges, border yards and client sites record every arrival and departure, and route playback shows each stop on the way.
- Inbound supplies. Fuel, reagents, spare parts and consumables arrive by the same roads. Tracking shows when a delivery truck left, where it stopped and when it reached the site.
- Plant and light vehicles on site. Excavators, loaders, haul trucks, service trucks and pickups share pits, workshops and fuel bays. Engine hours, idle time, geofences and driver scoring show which machine worked where and how it was used — the basis for maintenance and for billing hired equipment.
- Diesel theft. Large tanks on trucks, plant and site generators are a constant target. A capacitive fuel-level sensor measures the tank, the reading is cross-checked against GPS position and engine state, and a suspicious drop sends a WhatsApp alert in about 60 seconds. The diesel theft guide explains the patterns.
- Camp and site generators. Where the generator is the only power source for a camp, a pump or a workshop, monitoring the controller shows runtime hours, fuel level, battery voltage and alarms.
- Speed, fatigue and safety. Mining clients set speed limits and driving rules for contractors. Overspeed alerts, harsh-driving events and driving-time reports give the evidence, and dashcams add video where it is needed.
- Areas with weak network. On remote haul roads a Teltonika tracker keeps saving records in its internal memory and sends them once the connection returns, so the route arrives late instead of being lost.
